ZANDVOORT, NETHERLANDS – George Russell says he is in no rush to finalize his future with Mercedes but hopes to continue winning with the team in 2026 and beyond.

Russell, who has been a key driver for Mercedes for four seasons, has been a strong contender this year. He won the Canadian Grand Prix and has stood on the podium five other times, placing him fourth in the Drivers’ Championship. Despite his success, his contract situation remains unresolved.

Speaking ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, Russell explained that he deliberately chose not to engage in contract talks during the recent summer break. “There was no rush from my side, and I wanted to take a proper break to recharge,” he said. He confirmed that discussions with team principal Toto Wolff and Mercedes will happen “when the time is right.”

Russell added, “Ultimately, I want to win, and I want to win with Mercedes. That’s my priority. Things have to align, but I’m confident we’ll get it sorted.”

Meanwhile, Russell’s teammate, 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli, is still finding his footing in Formula 1. After an impressive podium in Canada, the young Italian has struggled in recent races, scoring just one point in the last four events. He described the summer break as essential for resetting and preparing for the final 10 races of the season.

“The break helped me look back at the season calmly and reset my focus,” Antonelli said. “I’m excited to get back on track and approach the next races with a clearer mindset.”

Mercedes now faces decisions not only on Russell’s contract but also on Antonelli’s future, as the team prepares for the remainder of the 2025 season.
