Bearman Shines Bright as Norris Reclaims Glory

Bearman shines mexico gp 2025

The 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix was a celebration of speed, passion, and pure racing drama. Under the bright skies of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, Lando Norris delivered a flawless performance that put him back on top of the championship standings. But while Norris took a dominant victory, it was young Ollie Bearman who stole hearts with a career-defining drive that showed Formula 1’s future is in safe hands.

Norris Back in Control

Lando Norris came to Mexico knowing the championship was hanging in the balance. After a strong second-place finish in Austin, he was just 14 points behind his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri. Mexico gave him a golden opportunity and he grabbed it with both hands.Despite missing the first practice session to allow rookie Pato O’Ward a run in the car, Norris looked confident the moment he returned to the track. On Saturday, he set the tone by topping the final practice and storming to pole position, edging Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc by over two-tenths of a second. When the lights went out on race day, Norris got the perfect launch. Four cars dived into Turn 1 together, but it was the Briton who kept his cool and came out in front. From there, he was untouchable. Lap after lap, he stretched his lead, managing his tyres to perfection and never putting a wheel wrong.By the time the chequered flag waved, Norris crossed the line more than 30 seconds ahead of Leclerc. It was one of the most dominant wins of the season and enough to take him back to the top of the World Championship by a single point.“I’m taking things one weekend at a time,” Norris said afterward, downplaying the pressure. But his confidence and control told a different story. With four rounds remaining, the 25-year-old is clearly in championship-winning form.

Piastri and Verstappen Fight to Stay in the Hunt

While Norris ruled the race, Oscar Piastri had to battle hard just to stay in contention. The Australian struggled with car balance all weekend and could only qualify seventh. Things got worse when he slipped to ninth on the opening lap, but Piastri stayed calm and began to fight back.Through clever strategy and brave overtakes, he worked his way up the order, passing George Russell and Yuki Tsunoda before gaining places through the pit stop cycles. A late Virtual Safety Car stopped him from challenging Bearman for fourth, forcing him to settle for fifth.“It’s been tricky driving the car differently these last few weekends,” Piastri admitted. “But we’ve got a direction now.” Though he lost the championship lead, Piastri remains within touching distance just one point behind his teammate.Max Verstappen, meanwhile, turned a chaotic start into a podium finish. The Dutchman went off the track while fighting through a four-wide battle into Turn 1 but recovered with determination. He struggled early on with the medium tyres but found his rhythm in the closing laps after switching to a one-stop strategy.By the end, Verstappen was right behind Leclerc, claiming a hard-fought third place. “I didn’t expect a podium today,” he said. “But the final stint was fun the car came alive.” Though he’s now 36 points behind Norris, the reigning champion remains in the mix.

Bearman Becomes Mexico’s Surprise Star

If Norris’s victory was commanding, Ollie Bearman’s performance was inspiring. The 20-year-old British driver gave Haas one of its best-ever results by finishing fourth after an impressive display of courage and racecraft.Starting ninth, Bearman made quick progress, overtaking rivals and staying out of trouble as chaos unfolded ahead. When Verstappen and Hamilton battled, he seized the moment, slipping past to climb further up the order. Later, a penalty for Hamilton pushed Bearman even higher. In the closing laps, he held off Piastri with calm maturity beyond his years. When he crossed the line in fourth, it wasn’t just a career-best finish—it was a statement.“It’s a dream come true,” Bearman said, smiling. “Racing wheel-to-wheel with Max Verstappen is something I’ve watched my whole life. To actually do it today feels incredible.”
