Mitchell Marsh has finally scored his first IPL century. It came in a match against Gujarat Titans, 15 years after he started playing in the Indian Premier League. This milestone is more than personal—it’s historic.
His older brother Shaun Marsh had scored a century way back in 2008, playing for Kings XI Punjab in the inaugural IPL season. With Mitchell now joining the list, the Marsh brothers have become the first pair of brothers to score centuries in IPL history.
Mitchell began his IPL journey in 2010 and has played for six different teams. But the dream of scoring a century remained out of reach until now—17 years after Shaun’s knock.
Over the years, 9 different brother pairs have appeared in the IPL including the Pathans (Irfan and Yusuf), the Pandyas (Hardik and Krunal), the Currans (Tom and Sam), and the McCullums (Brendon and Nathan). While some of them like Brendon McCullum, Yusuf Pathan, and Michael Hussey have scored centuries, their brothers never did—making the Marsh duo’s achievement even more unique.
Interestingly, the Marsh family is a cricket dynasty. Their father, Geoff Marsh, is a former Australian cricketer and a World Cup winner himself. Shaun represented Australia in the 2019 World Cup but got injured during the tournament. Meanwhile, Mitchell has won multiple major trophies, including the 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cups and the 2021 T20 World Cup.
This record not only marks a proud moment for the Marsh family but also adds a new page to IPL’s fascinating history.
